Awards season is here again. The BBWAA calendar puts Rookie of the Year on Monday, Nov. 9, Manager of the Year on Tuesday, Nov. 10, Cy Young on Wednesday, Nov. 11, and MVP on Thursday, Nov. 12 — each night on MLB Network. Before the next round of winners is named, we are looking back at last year's National League hardware: Shohei Ohtani's MVP and Paul Skenes' Cy Young. Here are the numbers that earned those trophies, a quick peek at this year's finalists, and the Ohtani and Skenes cards we have on our table right now. Stats as of Nov 5, 2026 (Baseball-Reference, BBWAA, MLB.com).

Last Year's Winners, This Year's Stage

Ohtani's back-to-back NL MVPs

In 2025 Ohtani hit 55 home runs with a 1.014 OPS across 158 games for the Dodgers, then returned to the mound for 14 starts (47.0 IP, 2.87 ERA, 62 strikeouts per Baseball Savant). That two-way resume, on top of his 2024 NL MVP season (54 HR, .310 BA, 9.0 WAR), made him the clear choice when the BBWAA named NL MVP last November. He enters this awards week as an NL MVP finalist again, alongside Pete Crow-Armstrong and Brice Turang.

Skenes from Rookie of the Year to Cy Young

Skenes debuted on May 11, 2024, won NL Rookie of the Year, then posted a 1.97 ERA over 187.2 innings with 216 strikeouts in 2025 to take the NL Cy Young. His 2026 line (10-11, 3.82 ERA, 200 SO in 174.1 IP) kept him an All-Star, but this year's NL Cy Young finalists are Jacob Misiorowski, Cristopher Sánchez and Chris Sale. The hardware he already owns still drives demand for his early Bowman and Prizm cards.

What to watch next week

Per the BBWAA awards page, Cy Young is Nov. 11 and MVP is Nov. 12 (both leagues). Reliever of the Year shares the Nov. 11 window. Whether or not Ohtani adds another MVP, awards week snaps hobby attention back to the names that dominated the season.
