A Résumé Built for Cooperstown Conversations
Harper debuted on April 28, 2012, at age 19 and won NL Rookie of the Year that season. His trophy case now holds 2 MVP awards (2015 and 2021), 9 All-Star selections, 4 Silver Sluggers, a Home Run Derby title and the 2022 NLCS MVP. His 2015 season remains one of the best of the era: 42 home runs, a .330 average, a 1.109 OPS and 9.7 WAR. The 2021 MVP year, his third in Philadelphia, posted a 1.044 OPS with 42 doubles and 35 homers.
October Harper
In red pinstripes, Harper has been at his best in October. Across 41 Phillies postseason games he has hit .303 with 13 home runs and a 1.064 OPS. The run peaked in 2022, when he hit .349 with 6 homers and won NLCS MVP.
What's Next
Harper is signed through 2031. Eight more home runs gets him to 400, a milestone Phillies fans could be celebrating early in 2027.
Card Spotlight: Where a Harper Collection Starts
If you're building a Harper run, start where his cardboard story starts: 2012. That was the year he debuted at 19, and it gave collectors two of his most recognizable early cards. The 2012 Bowman Prospects #BP10 carries the classic Bowman prospect look that made his name in the hobby. The 2012 Topps Update card is his first-year flagship-style Topps issue. For something shinier, the 2014 Bowman Chrome "1989 Bowman Is Back" Silver Diamond Refractor revives a retro design with a chrome finish. On the modern side, the 2024 Topps Heritage Chrome #405 is serial-numbered to 999, and the 2024 Topps base card shows Harper in Phillies red during his first-base era. Together they trace his career from teenage phenom to Philadelphia mainstay.
